How does online tutoring work?
At MTK tutoring, our virtual tutoring service is effective and reliable! We have a proven track record of helping students raise their GPA’s, understand difficult topics, complete homework assignments, improve test scores all while giving students the flexibility to work with a tutor from anywhere! Students can simply log in to a private ZOOM meeting room and get started right away, no waiting rooms or delays. Last minute appointments are easy to accommodate…just log on! With the use of screen sharing, virtual whiteboards, and the many additional resources we provide for our students (worksheets, practice problems, timed practice tests), they feel more confident with the material after every tutoring session.
Principles of Effective Online Tutoring
At MTK tutoring, content knowledge and the ability to communicate the content is key. We first identify common misconceptions and weak areas in the students’ understanding, pinpoint learning barriers, and then use the session to reteach material, do practice problems and quizzes and build confidence with the material. How do we do this? By listening to our students! It is critical to listen to the students while they explain the lesson in their own words to identify the underlying misunderstanding.
Building Relationships
MTK tutoring is not only focused on the students, but we also value parent input and communication. Oftentimes parents have a unique perspective on their child’s performance, where they would like tutors to focus on and a student’s unique learning style.
Our tutors have been carefully selected and know strategies to re-engage students (e.g., switching topics, reframing the problem, tying in real life.) are likely to be more effective. Half of the battle is keeping a student’s attention long enough to teach a full lesson or keeping them interested in their education. Our virtual tutoring sessions not only teach the subject matter at hand but get students excited about learning, education, and careers!

What makes MTK tutoring UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT?
Our tutors not only work with students during the scheduled session, but our head tutors are also available to answer additional questions students might have within the week of their tutoring session through text or email. We realize students sometimes have questions they forgot to ask during their sessions or need a hint/guidance with homework problems, so it is important to have that quick help! MTK tutoring is UNIQUE from other tutoring companies in that we are available to answer questions and review homework problems for students outside of tutoring sessions at no additional cost (with a minimum of one 60-minute session scheduled per week)! We also check in with our students after sessions to ensure our students truly understand the material covered and provide additional support if needed.
